The Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) celebrated its 45th anniversary with a special reception at the World Trade Organization (WTO) Headquarters in Geneva.
An OECS press release shared that the event, hosted by the Permanent Delegation of the OECS in Geneva, took place on June 19 at The Atrium of the WTO Headquarters, one day after the official observance of OECS Day. It brought together diplomats, international partners, and members of the Caribbean community to commemorate the Organisation’s 45 years of regional integration and cooperation.
The celebration also highlighted the Caribbean’s cultural heritage through a musical performance by acclaimed Antiguan and Barbudan pannist Khan Cordice. Cordice, who led the steelpan recital during last year’s 44th OECS anniversary celebrations, entertained guests alongside fellow Antiguan and Barbudan musician Khadijah Simon, who accompanied him on keyboard.
According to the OEC, the reception served as an opportunity to reflect on the Organisation’s achievements over the past four and a half decades while celebrating the unity and shared identity of its Member States.
The release also highlighted the role of the OECS Permanent Delegation in Geneva, which was established in 2005 to strengthen the Organisation’s representation at the World Trade Organization.
Since its establishment, the Delegation has been responsible for monitoring, analysing and reporting on developments within the WTO, while also preparing and submitting proposals to various committees and councils on issues affecting OECS Member States.
The anniversary reception formed part of the OECS’ broader observance of its 45th anniversary, recognizing what the Organisation says are its continued efforts to advance regional cooperation and represent the interests of its Member States on the international stage.
