Parliamentary Commissioner Harrison Thompson told The Nassau Guardian yesterday that nomination day is set for April 16 and the advanced poll will be held on April 30.
“We’re now preparing for those days, everybody knows what they need to do,” Thompson said.
“We’re just wrapping up registration now that we’re finished that process.
“Now we’re getting ready for the nomination day and then the advanced poll, then the big dance.”
Thompson said that officials have thus far identified 12 stations for advanced polling and are currently working on finalizing those stations to ensure that operations go smoothly.
“We’re trying to finalize them right now so that we don’t have all those people piled up in one area,” Thompson said.
“We are trying to identify strategic places where we’ll have about two or three constituencies in one area.
“It shouldn’t be too bad.”
The last day to register for the May 12 election was April 8.
Thompson said officials at the PRD ceased operations at 10 p.m., after a busy day of tackling last-minute registrations.
“It was hectic throughout the day and we cut off officially at 10 but we catered to those who were on the line,” Thompson said.
“I don’t think anybody got disenfranchised.
“They had enough time and we had a steady crowd throughout the day.”
He said nearly 203,000 people are on the register.
Meanwhile, the political campaigns are in full swing.
The Progressive Liberal Party (PLP) is set to have a rally at RM Bailey Park on New Providence on Saturday. The Free National Movement plans to hold a rally the same day on Grand Bahama.
