31 May 2026 Apia Samoa. Long queues of vehicles were seen lining up at various gas stations in Apia on Sunday night as motorists rushed to fill their tanks ahead of an expected increase in fuel prices from Monday, 1 June.
Service stations reported heavier than usual traffic throughout the day.
“Many drivers were seeking to avoid paying higher prices once the new monthly fuel rates take effect.”
With the rush for petrol and diesel, gas station owners limited all individual purchases to $100 tala.
Fuel prices in Samoa are reviewed and set monthly by the Ministry of Finance based on international petroleum market prices and shipping costs.
The anticipated increase follows a sharp rise in May, when petrol jumped from $2.85 to $3.51 per litre, diesel from $3.09 to $4.50 per litre, and kerosene from $2.70 to $4.05 per litre.
Global oil prices have come under pressure in recent months due to escalating tensions in the Middle East, including the conflict involving Iran and Israel.

Concerns over disruptions to international oil supplies and shipping routes have pushed up fuel costs worldwide, with the effects being felt in fuel-importing countries such as Samoa.

Recent fuel prices in Samoa have fluctuated significantly:
December 2024: Petrol $2.88, Diesel $2.99, Kerosene $2.61 per litre.

December 2025: Petrol $2.92, Diesel $3.10, Kerosene $2.70 per litre.
January 2026: Petrol $2.97, Diesel $3.22, Kerosene $2.85 per litre.
April 2026: Petrol $2.85, Diesel $3.09, Kerosene $2.70 per litre.

May 2026: Petrol $3.51, Diesel $4.50, Kerosene $4.05 per litre.
The Ministry of Finance is expected to announce the official June fuel prices on Monday.
