    Mideast countries welcome US-Iran MoU, call for full implementation – World


    CAIRO – Iran, the United States and Pakistan early Monday announced the finalization of the memorandum of understanding (MoU) on ending the war following weeks of negotiations, adding that it will be officially signed in Switzerland on Friday.

    Countries in the Middle East welcomed the diplomatic breakthrough and the planned reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, voicing hope that the MoU would help create conditions for a comprehensive and lasting peace in the region.

    Regional countries expressed their support for the MoU and the upcoming reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, a vital maritime corridor.

    In a statement, the Iraqi Foreign Ministry expressed full support for the diplomatic breakthrough and satisfaction with the announcement regarding the upcoming reopening of the Strait of Hormuz to normal maritime navigation, noting its vital importance for ensuring the smooth flow of oil and gas to global markets and for stabilizing international energy sectors.

    In a statement on X, the Saudi Foreign Ministry welcomed the MoU, stressing the importance of restoring security and freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.

    Palestine said in a press statement published by the Palestinian News Agency WAFA that the MoU would spare the countries and peoples of the Arab Gulf, Jordan and the region from further conflicts and enhance regional security and stability.

    Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi and visiting United Arab Emirates (UAE) President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan welcomed the MoU and the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, according to a statement from the Egyptian Presidency.

    In a statement, the Jordanian Foreign Ministry welcomed the MoU to cease military operations and commence detailed negotiations aimed at reaching a permanent accord, calling it an important step toward restoring regional and international security and stability.

    In a statement, the Qatari Foreign Ministry described the MoU as an important step toward promoting regional and international peace, stability and economic growth.

    The Bahraini Foreign Ministry said in a statement that the development is an important step toward de-escalation and confidence-building, paving the way for a comprehensive agreement that would help strengthen security, stability and lasting peace in the Middle East, while enhancing international peace and security.

    In a statement, the Algerian Foreign Ministry said Algeria welcomes the framework agreement between the United States and Iran, under which military operations in the Gulf and the Middle East are to be halted.

    Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said the MoU has given the Middle East region “a sigh of relief,” adding that Turkiye hopes the MoU will “fully open the way toward the establishment of lasting peace and stability in our region.”

    Lebanese President Joseph Aoun and Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri welcomed the MoU, expressing the hope that it could help end military escalation in the region.

    Regional countries voiced hope that the MoU would help create the conditions for comprehensive and lasting peace in the Middle East, while reaffirming support for resolving disputes through dialogue.

    Iraq affirms that the country”s principled and unwavering position has always been, and remains, based on rejecting war and adopting dialogue and peaceful means as the only way to resolve disputes.

    Saudi Arabia expressed hope for achieving peace in a manner that enhances regional and global security through a lasting agreement that takes into account the security interests of regional countries and upholds the principle of respect for states’ internal affairs.

    Jordan emphasized the importance of reaching a permanent agreement that consolidates security and stability in the region, takes into account the security interests of regional states, adheres to the principles of good neighborliness, respects state sovereignty, and ensures non-interference in internal affairs.

    Palestine expressed its hope that the MoU would constitute a positive step toward enhancing regional stability and creating the necessary conditions to revive the political and diplomatic path in a way that serves the interests of all peoples of the region and enhances security, peace and development for all.

    Jordan reaffirmed the kingdom’s firm stance in support of resolving conflicts through diplomatic means, in accordance with the principles of international law and the UN Charter.

    Qatar reaffirmed its support for initiatives aimed at enhancing regional security and stability and resolving disputes through dialogue in accordance with international law and the principles of good-neighborliness.

    Oman’s Council of Ministers expressed appreciation for regional and international efforts to safeguard regional security and stability, particularly the constructive roles played by member states of the Gulf Cooperation Council and Pakistan.

    Algeria voiced hope that the MoU would serve as a basis for strengthening mutual trust between the concerned parties and create an enabling environment for comprehensive and final solutions to all outstanding issues, in a manner that ensures lasting and sustainable security in the region.

    Iran and the United States finalized the MoU on Sunday, aiming to end the war and military operations on all fronts, including Lebanon.

    On Feb 28, Israel and the United States launched joint attacks on Tehran and other Iranian cities. Iran responded with waves of missile and drone attacks targeting Israel and US bases and assets in the region.
