The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Luxembourg, Xavier Bettel, has warned that Andorra will hardly have a new opportunity under the same conditions if it rejects the association agreement with the European Union. During the official visit to the Principality, Bettel remarked that “what has been negotiated will not be presented to you again on a tray” and has considered that Andorra has achieved “the maximum” after a long negotiation process in which its specificities have been recognised.
“It doesn’t mean that we can never negotiate again, but I have my doubts that it will be a good agreement like this, because it has gone too far”he pointed out this morning in a press conference with Imma Tor. The Luxembourg minister has given as an example Brexit to illustrate what it means to say ‘no’ in Europe, stating that “now they want to go back and, if they ever do, it won’t be through the big door, but through the back door”. Bettel has also warned against “siren songs” that attribute all of Europe’s internal problems to Brussels. However, he has insisted that it will be up to the citizens to decide in a referendum and has avoided indicating what they should vote for, but he has asked the Andorrans to value as well “the positive sides of Europe”. “If you reject the deal, I don’t know if you’ll get another chance”he concluded..
