Bahamian auto racing sensation Lenox Lockhart was back in the driver’s seat over the weekend, making an appearance at the 2026 ACI (Automobile Club d’Italia) Italian Championship (Round Two) in Munro Leccese, Italy.
Lockhart had some strong finishes, moving through the preliminary rounds, but ultimately made contact with another racer in the Mini Gr.3 final, which resulted in a 14th place finish overall.
Lockhart, 10, finished in a time of 8:12.860 across nine laps. His best lap time was 53.575.
In a statement released by his father, Migueal Lockhart, the young racer outlined how he felt about his latest performance on the European circuit.
“I felt really strong all weekend and I am proud of the way we kept pushing,” he said in the statement. “We showed good pace through qualifying, the heats, and the pre-final, so there were a lot of positives. The final was disappointing after the contact at the start, but that is racing sometimes. We will keep working hard and come back stronger at the next one.”
Lockhart qualified with a top-five time out of 51 drivers and continued his strong run in the heats.
He placed fourth in heat one, third in heat two, and seventh in heat three.
Prior to the final, Lockhart crossed the finish line in 8:05.926 to be ranked fourth overall in the pre-final. His best lap time was 53.417.
Even with his recent setback, the gifted Bahamian racer has been making strides on the European circuit.
Lockhart made history in April, securing a pole position to become the first Bahamian to accomplish the feat in auto racing, doing so at the 2026 Compionato Italians ACI Karting (Round One) in Londato del Garda, Italy.
Next up on Lockhart’s racing schedule is the SKUSA Pro Tour (Rounds Three and Four) at the Motorsports Country Club of Cincinnati in Batavia, Ohio. The event is set for June 12-14.
