Landry in interview: Trump has not forgotten Greenland

The US’s special envoy to Greenland, Jeff Landry, says in an interview that he still sees a good opportunity for the US to “get” Greenland.

Jeff Landry, who has been appointed by Donald Trump as special envoy to Greenland, is again on the field with sensational statements.

The remarks were made during an interview on The Alex Marlow Show, and the program has shared the clip on X.

Here, Jeff Landry says, among other things, that he spoke with Donald Trump at the weekend and that Trump has not forgotten Greenland.

Jeff Landry tells the interviewer that, based on his visit to Nuuk earlier this year, he has come to the conclusion that the Greenlandic people want to be “together with the United States”:

– They want a closer relationship with the United States. They want more English teachers and they want more military presence, says Jeff Landry.

He also tells how he thinks the US can “get” Greenland.

Landry believes that this must be done by the old American military bases being manned again and by establishing direct ship and air routes between the United States and Greenland to open up more trade.

– There are a lot of small things that we can do, which I think will bring them directly into the fold, reads the assessment from Jeff Landry.

In connection with the national day, Landry also attracted attention when, in a congratulatory message to Greenland, he indicated that Greenland could become a state in the United States as early as next year.

Naalakkersuisoq for foreign affairs, Múte B. Egede (IA), criticized Landry’s announcement:

– We won’t be. Greenland’s future is decided in Greenland. It is a great disrespect towards Greenland and the Kingdom that you have cooperation in a working group and then come up with such statements. It is completely out of the question, said Múte B. Egede.
