KULA FC launched their 2026 Premier Soccer League (PSL) campaign in emphatic style, sweeping aside Finschhafen Bavarians 4-0 in their opening-round clash at the PNG Football Stadium on Saturday.
The commanding victory provided head coach Percy Mataio with a perfect start, as his side delivered a disciplined performance to secure all three points.
Despite the scoreline, Mataio acknowledged the challenges of a season opener: “The first game is always a tough game. We always want to see how best we can perform under the conditions and measure ourselves against the competition.”
Mataio credited last season’s experience and the return of key players for the team’s strong start.
While proud of the effort, he highlighted the need for improvement as the season unfolds: “It wasn’t pretty in terms of how we wanted the game to be played, but I am very proud of the effort from every player.”
The win places Kula FC among the early pace-setters after an entertaining opening weekend of PSL action.
Elsewhere, Port Moresby Strikers FC defeated Morobe Wawens FC 2-0, Komara FC impressed with a 4-1 victory over Wawa FC, Lae City FC began strongly with a 4-1 win over NCD FC, and Admiralty FC edged Lae City Dwellers 2-1.
