PETALING JAYA: The King has called for tighter security at all airports and entry points nationwide to curb drug smuggling and cross-border crime.
His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, said ministries and relevant agencies must strengthen enforcement, continuous monitoring and cooperation to ensure the country’s borders remain secure.
The King said the measures were necessary to combat drug trafficking and other cross-border criminal activities that could threaten public safety and order.
Recent cases involving Malaysians have put airport security in the spotlight, including the arrest of a Malaysian pilot after Indonesian authorities seized 26kg of MDMA from his luggage at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport on July 28.
His Majesty issued the call in a Facebook post on Saturday (Aug 8), after granting an audience to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim at Istana Bukit Tunku here.
The meeting lasted more than an hour.
During the audience, the King was also briefed on the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) report concerning Lembaga Tabung Haji, as well as current issues involving the Federal Land Development Authority (Felda).
The RCI was appointed on Jan 20, 2022, to examine issues involving Tabung Haji, with its report covering the pilgrimage fund’s management from 2014 to 2020. The Cabinet declassified and released the report on July 29.
Felda has also been under scrutiny over its financial position, with Anwar saying last month that excessive political interference had left the agency saddled with almost RM10bil in debt.
Sultan Ibrahim called for thorough investigations into the matters and said there should be no compromise against anyone found to have committed wrongdoing.
His Majesty said investigations should be carried out thoroughly to ensure all those responsible are held accountable and similar incidents do not recur.
“No one should escape action if they are truly found guilty. Most importantly, matters like this must not be allowed to happen again,” His Majesty said.
