Employees of Caribbean banking institutions will have an opportunity to pursue a university degree with financial support under a new scholarship programme launched by the Caribbean Association of Banks (CAB) and The University of the West Indies (UWI).
The CAB–UWI Scholarship Programme 2026 will provide assistance to eligible employees of CAB Member institutions pursuing a Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Banking and Finance.
The three-year programme will be offered on a part-time basis, with the next intake scheduled for January 2027, as per a joint release.
The initiative is aimed at employees seeking to strengthen their qualifications and advance their careers in banking and financial services across the Caribbean.
The release outlined that applicants must be employed by a CAB Member institution and submit an online scholarship application along with several supporting documents. These include a completed CAB Scholarship Application Form, a letter of recommendation from their employer, a signed statement from the employer accepting responsibility for reimbursement if the scholarship conditions are not fulfilled, and a current curriculum vitae.
Scholarship payments will be made directly to UWI on a semester-by-semester basis. Continued funding will depend on both academic performance and the recipient’s employment status.
To receive funding for each semester, students must provide an official transcript or certificate showing that they successfully completed the previous semester. Their employer must also confirm that they remain employed by a CAB Member institution before the start of each new semester.
Recipients will be expected to remain enrolled continuously as part-time students throughout the programme and maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0 each semester.
They will also be required to participate in CAB’s Future Leaders Programme for two years. This includes contributing to research and making presentations at the CAB Conference.
The scholarship is subject to CAB’s terms and conditions and will be reviewed every semester. Funding may be withdrawn if a recipient leaves employment with a CAB Member institution.
After completing the degree, scholarship recipients must remain employed by a CAB Member institution for a period matching the length of the scholarship they received.
CAB is encouraging its member institutions to identify employees with strong potential and support their participation in the programme as part of efforts to build the next generation of banking and financial services professionals in the region.
