Chairman of Naalakkersuisut, Jens-Frederik Nielsen (D), received an award from the Spanish newspaper La Vanguardia on Monday for his handling of the conflict with the United States.
Chairman of Naalakkersuisut, Jens-Frederik Nielsen (D), is in Spain these days, and on Monday he received an award from a Spanish newspaper in Barcelona.
This is stated by Jens-Frederik Nielsen on Facebook:
– I got the award because the Greenlandic population has always stood up for democracy and the right to self-determination. It deserves recognition, says the chairman of Naalakkersuisut.
Jens-Frederik Nielsen received the international award at the newspaper La Vanguardia’s awards show for his handling of the pressure from the USA. The newspaper believes that the handling led to the US accepting a diplomatic path.
According to La Vanguardia Jens-Frederik Nielsen used his acceptance speech to call for respect for international law and sovereignty:
– We must defend this world, which is built on the principles that arose after the Second World War – principles based on respect for international law and sovereignty. This is how we create a world with fewer conflicts, stated Jens-Frederik Nielsen according to La Vanguardia.
