Now Air Greenland has started marketing the upcoming direct route between the new airport in Ilulissat and Copenhagen.
The new airport opens on 29 October and the first direct departure from Copenhagen to Ilulissat and back is the same day.
The premiere flight takes place with Tuukkaq with space for 305 passengers, but otherwise the plan is for the route to be flown by Jettime and their Boeing 737-800 with space for 189 passengers every Wednesday until April, when Air Greenland puts the company’s new Airbus A320neo “Unaaq” on the route.
The first regular flight with Jettime will be on 4 November.
Great interest in the new route
– There is already great interest in tickets for the new route, says Air Greenland’s marketing and communications manager Katja Vahl.
– The interest already goes both ways – both from Greenland towards Denmark and from Denmark towards Ilulissat.
It is currently possible to buy a return ticket Ilulissat – Copenhagen on Air Greenland’s website for DKK 7,145 for the cheapest Takuss ticket, but that price must be taken with reservations because Air Greenland works with so-called dynamic prices. This means that the price reflects the demand for the specific departure. The greater the demand, the higher the price.
In the period around Christmas and New Year, Air Greenland increases the weekly flights with an additional departure on Mondays. From 1 March, the program will increase to three weekly departures, and over the summer there will be up to six weekly direct departures between Copenhagen and Ilulissat.
The cities outside Ilulissat
The new direct route between Ilulissat and Copenhagen will also be of great importance to the cities outside Ilulissat, where it will be easier and simpler to get out into the world via Copenhagen.
Travelers from Aasiaat can continue towards Copenhagen via both Ilulissat and Nuuk. In the summer programme, there will be up to six same-day connections per week.
For Upernavik and Uummannaq there are only a few actual same-day connections in the winter programme. On the other hand, the direct route via Ilulissat makes it both easier and cheaper to travel south from the two areas, emphasizes Air Greenland.
The Jettime route gets flight number GL707, departing from Copenhagen at 9.45 and arriving in Ilulissat at 11.45. The opposite route will be flight number GL708, departing from Ilulissat at 1:15 p.m. and arriving in Copenhagen at 9:00 p.m.
The flight numbers will change when Air Greenland deploys its new Airbus A320neo, Unaaq, from April. Then the departure from Copenhagen will be called GL705 and from Ilulissat GL706.
