BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 15. Iranian President
Masoud Pezeshkian will visit Armenia on Friday, October 16, to
attend the Leaders’ Summit held as part of the 17th Conference of
the Parties to the UN Convention on Biological Diversity (COP17),
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei said at a
press conference in Tehran on Thursday.
According to a statement by Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs,
the visit to Yerevan will focus on participation in the summit.
Baghaei added that the Iranian president is expected to meet
with several participating heads of state on the sidelines of the
summit to exchange views.
He said Iran’s participation was significant given the
environmental damage caused in Iran and the wider region, including
the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman, during US and Israeli
airstrikes against Iran.
Baghaei also said Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi
would visit Baghdad to attend the annual meeting of foreign
ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, scheduled for
October 17–18.
