PARAMARIBO – A delegation from the International Anti-Corruption Coordination Center (IACCC) paid an introductory visit to the Court of Justice of Suriname on Monday. The visit took place in the run-up to the Anti-Corruption Congress to be held on Tuesday (today) at the Ballroom of Torarica.
The delegation was led by D. Murphy, head of the IACCC, and also included F. Portugal, anti-corruption coordinator at Interpol, M. Boereboom and D. van der Hoorn of the Fiscal Intelligence and Investigation Service (FIOD) in the Netherlands.
The conference brings together experts from home and abroad to give presentations on the fight against corruption from different perspectives. A panel discussion will follow. The aim of the conference is to increase awareness within legal practice about the consequences of corruption for the rule of law and society. In addition, strengthening cooperation between national and international partners in the field of anti-corruption is central.
During their stay in Suriname, the IACCC delegation will also hold discussions with other important actors. In addition, the experts will provide workshops in which knowledge, experiences and international best practices in the field of anti-corruption are shared. The organizations involved want to contribute to a more effective approach to corruption and further strengthening international cooperation in this area.
