“Summary” (AKIpress) – Journalist Mahabat Tazhibek kyzy On September 23, she told AKIpress about the time spent in prison, the conditions of detention and her life after release.
She was detained in January 2024 and charged with inciting mass riots.
“If you count a day as two (in pre-trial detention), I served almost three or three and a half years. Initially, when the former boss was there, we did not immediately find a common language. On the very first day they managed to set me up, and I celebrated the New Year in a punishment cell,” the journalist said.
According to her, after the arrival of the new chief, the situation changed. “He turned out to be a normal and decent person. During my imprisonment, I helped in organizational matters, developed and was creative,” said Tazhibek kyzy.
The journalist said that the first six months of her imprisonment were especially difficult for her. At the same time, Tazhibek kyzy added that the attitude of the institution’s employees towards her was different. “Some were good, but others were the opposite,” she said.
According to Tazhibek kyzy, there was also a different attitude among the convicts: “Half of them treated well, the other half arranged intrigues and setups every single day. It happens there.”
She said that in the women’s colony there is now no “system” that existed before.
“In my free time, I was creative: singing, drawing, reading. We also toured other colonies. The first time we performed was in IK No. 27, then in IK No. 8. Then I was supposed to go on tour to Jalal-Abad, but unexpectedly I was released. It was a shock for me – I didn’t expect it and didn’t hope for it,” the journalist said.
Tazhibek kyzy also spoke about her current life in freedom.
“There are restrictions now. I have no right to work because I am under investigation. I also do not have the right to open social networks and express my opinion, since the process is ongoing. Also, I cannot travel abroad, since I have a written undertaking not to leave. Otherwise, I live like an ordinary person,” she concluded.
