A group of 23 Hungarian artists and cultural professionals arrived in Shanxi province on June 17 for a 13-day cultural exploration. Their mission is to delve into the province’s iconic ancient architecture and carry out on-site artistic creation.
During their stay, the Hungarian delegation will visit seven cities, including Taiyuan, Xinzhou, Shuozhou, and Datong. They will explore over 10 renowned historical sites – such as Jinci Temple, Yingxian Wooden Pagoda, Yungang Grottoes, and the ancient city of Pingyao – capturing their essence through art.

“The Hungarian artists are not just creators; they are explorers, observers, and cultural ambassadors,” said Danko Reka Tunde, a representative of the Hungarian Sino-European Foundation for Culture and Education. “Their journey in Shanxi will leave a lasting mark of cultural dialogue and friendship.” She hopes the event will pave the way for future collaborations, fostering enduring friendships and deepening cultural exchanges between Hungary and China.
Shanxi is a treasure trove of ancient Chinese architecture, boasting nearly 30,000 historical structures, while Hungarian painting features a unique blend of Chinese and European influences, offering a rich foundation for cultural exchange.
Hungarian artist Farkas Roland remarked that art is humanity’s most powerful language, capable of transcending geographical boundaries and cultural differences to bring minds and hearts together.
He cherishes the opportunity to experience Shanxi’s architectural heritage up close and looks forward to interpreting the beauty of Eastern architecture through his art, showcasing the distinctiveness of Hungarian artistry and achieving a mutually enriching artistic fusion.
