“The ceasefire must be comprehensive (…), without Israel’s (…) freedom to kill,” Qassem said in a televised address, calling on the government to stop the “farce and humiliation called direct negotiations” with Israel.
He also stated that “as long as our villages are insecure – bombarded, destroyed, and our people are killed – the settlements (in Northern Israel as well) are insecure.”
Lebanon and Israel agreed on Wednesday to implement a ceasefire but said it would require a “total ceasefire” from Hezbollah, according to a joint statement after US-led talks in Washington.
Lebanese President Joseph Aoun said on Thursday that the agreement announced in Washington after negotiations with Israel is the last chance to achieve a comprehensive ceasefire.
Israel’s Defense Minister Israel Katz said the ceasefire agreement with Lebanon gives the military the freedom to strike Beirut if Hezbollah attacks Israeli communities.
He added that operations in southern Lebanon would continue.
