The rapporteur of the High Council of State (HCS), Belqasim Debriz, has criticised what he described as interference by UN mission staff in Libya’s internal affairs through the ongoing structured dialogue.
Speaking to Al-Tanasuh TV, Debriz said some participants had called for adherence to the Libyan constitution, but a staff member from the UN mission rejected the proposal.
He questioned the “growing influence” of non-Libyan officials, saying it was unreasonable for a constitution drafted by an elected body to remain unused while the UN pursues externally driven parallel dialogues.
Debriz indicated that the HCS had previously rejected the UN mission’s selection of four representatives on its behalf without its consent. He said the council is expected to meet early next week to discuss the dialogue’s outcomes, with a decision likely to reject its results.
