MADANG Rugby League successfully wrapped up its Preseason 9’s Competition with thrilling elimination finals and a grand final showdown on Saturday at the Ron Albert Oval.
Eight teams battled through intense and physical encounters, with the top four advancing into the elimination finals.
Hawks and Diwai emerged as the standout sides. Hawks dominated their path, defeating Diwai in the qualifying final to secure a direct berth in the grand final.
After Tarangau overcame Royals in the third vs fourth playoff, Diwai faced Tarangau in a fiercely-contested clash and edged them out to earn a rematch against Hawks.
In the championship decider, Hawks proved too strong, delivering a commanding performance to defeat Diwai and claim the title.
The grand final was officiated by Madang Deputy Governor Kui Udag, who performed the ceremonial kick-off. He was joined by Amandi Gurinan Wanuma, president and chairman for Sports, and provincial sports coordinator Panchito Amepo.
On behalf of the Madang Rugby League, treasurer Newman Tom expressed gratitude to the Madang government for its continued support, acknowledging the contribution of K2,500 to stage the games.
