US sprinter Jaden Green produced a commanding performance at the Barbados Grand Prix, storming to victory in the men’s 200 metres in 20.46 seconds — a time that is still pending ratification as a new national junior record.
Speaking to Barbados TODAY immediately after the race, Green who represented the Panthers during the meet struck a satisfied but measured tone, crediting his preparation.
“I had good strength of execution during this race, I know the training would have paid off and thankfully it did today.
“The time could have been a bit faster but it’s a personal best so thanks to God. Later this year I have the NACAC Under 23 competition and World Under 20’s. College life has had some ups and downs so far, but thankfully I have gotten through,” he explained.
Kemba Nelson of Eagles won the women’s 200m in 23.03 seconds, while in the 100m, Semira Killebrew of Lions won in a time of 11.54, with Omari Lewis of Falcons winning the men’s race in 10.10 seconds.
Sada Williams warmed up for her Commonwealth Games title defense with a 50.84 second clocking, as she won the Women’s 400m for the Lions.
Event headliner Kirani James of Grenada was fourth in the men’s equivalent, competing in just his second race of the season. He clocked 46.08 seconds, in the race won by Justin Robinson of Lions in 44.99.
Eagles won the overall title with 122 points, ahead of Lions on 115, Panthers 102 and Falcons 88.
