GK: Which Country Has No Official Capital?

Most countries have a capital city that serves as the political and administrative centre of the nation. From New Delhi and Paris to Tokyo and Canberra, these cities are usually easy to identify on a map. But there is one independent country that has no officially designated capital city. It is the tiny Pacific island nation of Nauru. Instead, government offices are located in Yaren District, which is commonly described as the country’s de facto capital.

Nauru is a small island country in the central Pacific Ocean. It became independent in 1968 and is one of the world's smallest countries, both in terms of land area and population. Unlike most countries, however, Nauru does not have a legally designated capital city. This makes it an unusual entry in world geography.

If Nauru has no capital, where does its government operate? The answer is Yaren District, located on the southern part of the island. Government offices, including Parliament and other key institutions, are located there. Because of this, Yaren is often informally referred to as Nauru's capital.

The entire country is a tiny island, divided into districts rather than large cities. Yaren functions as the main administrative area, but it was never formally designated as the national capital. This is why references to Nauru often describe it as having "no capital city per se", while identifying Yaren as the location of government offices.

Another interesting fact is that Nauru has no major urban centre in the way countries such as India or France do. Its government and population centres are spread across the island's districts.

Nauru's unusual capital arrangement makes it a fascinating example of how political geography does not always follow the standard model of one country.
