
NIMITZ HILL, Guam – June 19, 2026 – The United States hosted a Joint Committee Meeting (JCM) with the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM) from May 27–28, 2026, at the Joint Task Force–Micronesia Headquarters in Guam. This two-day meeting brought together officials from both nations to discuss key issues of the bilateral defense and security partnership as specified under Title III of the Compact of Free Association (COFA).
The FSM delegation was led by H.E. Jackson Soram, FSM Ambassador to the United States, and T.H. Leonito Bacalando Jr., Secretary of the FSM Department of Justice. Also joining the FSM delegation were T.H. Arthy Nena, Lieutenant Governor of Kosrae, and other national and state officials. The U.S. delegation was led by Joint Task Force–Micronesia Commander Rear Admiral Joshua Lasky and U.S. Ambassador to the FSM Jennifer Johnson.
Topics of interest included law enforcement training, economic security, maritime domain awareness, and cybersecurity, among others. The positive and productive atmosphere encouraged networking and collaboration, allowing leaders to strengthen personal relationships and foster a better understanding of shared goals. The meeting also featured discussions on recent and upcoming U.S. military projects and engagements in the FSM, including the recently completed Pacific Air Forces (PACAF) Pacific Angel medical exercise and the upcoming Pacific Fleet (PACFLT) Pacific Partnership Humanitarian exercise.
One focus of the meeting was the Compact of Free Association Title III Deep Dive Session, which focused on efforts to expedite services provided by the DOW to the FSM through the JCM process.
The meeting concluded on a positive note, with the FSM set to host the next Joint Committee Meeting in November of this year.
