Belizeans woke up to higher fuel prices Saturday morning, as gas stations across the country adjusted their rates for the fourth time amid ongoing tensions in the Middle East.
Blockades in the Strait of Hormuz have been driving up global fuel costs, and the effects are being felt right at the pump here at home.
At Shell stations, diesel saw the steepest climb, jumping $1.41 from $14.57 to $15.98. Premium edged up just five cents, from $14.64 to $14.69. Regular fuel, however, remained unchanged at $13.84, offering drivers at least a small sense of relief.
For those willing to shop around, prices at some stations are running a few cents lower.
The ripple effect is not stopping at the pump. Commuters relying on independent bus runs in some areas should expect to dig a little deeper into their pockets come Monday, as bus fares are set to increase in response to the rising fuel costs.
