A Cayo restaurant has thrown open its kitchen doors for an inaugural kitchen party. It’s inviting guests to watch chefs at work, and sample from a seventeen-item tasting menu in what owners say is a first-of-its-kind experience in Belize.
At 3 Senses Lounge in Vanilla Hills, co-owner Claudia Konig said the concept was built around a simple idea: let guests see the story behind the plate. “The kitchen becomes the stage and our guests are invited to enter the kitchen at any time they want. Our chefs are preparing in front of our guests. They can pick whatever they like, how often they like,” Konig said.
Co-owner Franklin Syrowatka said the kitchen itself is part of what they want to share. “We are very proud of our kitchen, not only about the room and the appliances, but about how we do things. About the process behind it. If you want to do elevated cooking, like we do here, it is indeed quite a process, and we want people to have a chance to look at it,” he said.
Sous-chef Luis Maroquin said the experience changes how guests connect with food. “Most people only come to the restaurant and just eat the food. There are minimum people that can actually say, ‘I saw the chef doing it. I saw how he plated it, I saw the ideas that came to life,’” he said.
Konig said the format is not new globally, but it is new here. “I have never heard of anything like this in Belize,” he added.
