Fidelity Bank (Bahamas) Limited has stepped up to the tee as the title sponsor for the 2nd Annual University of The Bahamas (UB) Mingoes Golf Invitational, set for July 5, at the Royal Blue Golf Course at Baha Mar.
The invitational, powered by Fidelity, serves as a fundraising initiative for the golf program at UB, and also provides an opportunity to promote the golf program that has seen tremendous growth in recent years.
“‘We’re good for you’ is the corporate mantra of Fidelity, and this is built on forging strong relationships with key stakeholders, which extend beyond customers and into communities in which Fidelity operates,” said Fidelity’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Gowon Bowe. “Fidelity believes in supporting the development of the youth of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas as they become productive citizens of the country, and the discipline and problem-solving aspects of the sport of golf certainly contributes to this development, in addition to the possibly producing the next top tier of professional golfers.”
In addition to the multitude of prizes up for grabs, the golfer with a hole-in-one on hole 12 wins a 2026 Mercedes-Benz SUV sponsored by Tyreflex Star Motors.
Fidelity is a company committed to providing support to the communities of The Bahamas, which goes beyond offering financial products, services and expertise that help thousands of Bahamian families, and includes financial support for activities that help to build communities, said Bowe.
“Fidelity has been a supporter of the invitational from the beginning and we are excited that this year, they are expanding their impact in UB Athletics, our golf program and our golfers,” UB Athletics Director Kimberley Rolle said. “The tournament is designed to financially support the golf program here at UB while also promoting the program and we are grateful Fidelity has stepped up to make this happen.”
Dunkin’ Bahamas has stepped up as a gold sponsor for the tournament that will help to develop the men and women’s golf teams at UB.
“At Dunkin’, we believe that investing in education is an investment in the future of our country,” said CEO of Dunkin’ Bahamas Katherine Nelson. “We are proud to support the University of The Bahamas Golf Invitational and its efforts to create opportunities for students while fostering community engagement and supporting the development of future leaders.”
Nelson said Dunkin’ is the country’s favorite all-day, everyday destination for coffee, hot and iced beverages, donuts, fancies and breakfast favorites. The company is committed to supporting initiatives that strengthen communities, expand educational opportunities, and contribute to the continued development of The Bahamas.
Frederick Taylor, Head Coach for UB Golf, who is excited to have the sponsors, said the goal is to have the golfers equipped properly.
“We don’t want to play with inferior equipment, and we don’t want to be the team that do not have the facilities or access to the facilities because of financial constraints. We want to make sure our kids are able to perform at a world-class level and that’s the goal. By year three, or four, we can start inviting international communities to play.”
Lightbourne Trading and J.S. Johnson have again joined with UB Athletics as silver level sponsors for the invitational.
Corner Bank, Bahamas Butterfield Trust Bahamas, and ARM have joined the invitational as bronze sponsors while M&E Limited and ARM Caribbean Limited are each sponsoring one of the holes.
The tournament is set for a 2 p.m. start on Sunday July 5, at Baha Mar’s Royal Blue course and will follow a shotgun start.
