Eleven families in Canefield East have taken possession of newly constructed climate-resilient homes as the Government continues its programme to expand access to safe and durable housing.
The handover represents another phase of the national housing initiative, which seeks to provide Dominican families with affordable
homes while improving their ability to withstand hurricanes and other natural hazards.
The Government’s focus on resilient housing intensified following the devastation caused by Hurricane Maria, prompting increased
investment in homes designed to better withstand extreme weather conditions.
Through its long-term housing strategy, thousands of resilient houses have been constructed with financial support from various sources,
forming part of a wider effort to strengthen household and national resilience.
The Canefield East handover is included in the latest phase of the programme, which will see a total of 215 homes and apartment units
delivered across nine communities.
For the 11 recipient households, the new properties are expected to provide greater stability, security and peace of mind, while also giving
them a stronger foundation to face future climate-related challenges.
