Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures have released the final trailer for Dune: Part Three, giving fans their biggest glimpse yet at Denis Villeneuve’s adaptation of Frank Herbert’s Dune Messiah. The film arrives in theatres on December 18, bringing Villeneuve’s acclaimed trilogy to a close.
Set nearly two decades after the events of Dune: Part Two, the story follows Emperor Paul Atreides as his empire begins to fracture under the weight of a galaxy-wide holy war fought in his name. The trailer paints a far bleaker picture of Paul’s reign, with political conspiracies, betrayal and the devastating consequences of absolute power taking centre stage.
Timothée Chalamet returns as Paul alongside Zendaya, whose Chani takes on a significantly expanded role. The new footage also reveals more of Florence Pugh’s Princess Irulan as shifting alliances threaten the fragile balance of the Imperium.
One of the trailer’s biggest reveals is Jason Momoa’s return as Duncan Idaho, resurrected as the ghola Hayt. Robert Pattinson also makes his first major appearance as the shape-shifting Scytale, the film’s primary antagonist.
The trailer also teases the arrival of Paul and Chani’s son, Leto II, while Anya Taylor-Joy returns as Alia Atreides.
Speaking after the trailer debuted during a global IMAX fan event, Chalamet described the story as a warning about the dangers of charismatic leaders and praised Villeneuve’s creative approach to expanding Paul and Chani’s relationship beyond the source material.
Alongside Chalamet, Zendaya, Momoa and Pugh, the ensemble cast includes Rebecca Ferguson, Javier Bardem, Robert Pattinson, Anya Taylor-Joy and Isaach de Bankolé. Hans Zimmer returns to compose the score, while Villeneuve once again directs and co-writes the screenplay.
The trailer premiered during a worldwide IMAX fan event held across multiple cities, with extended footage also set to screen ahead of IMAX 70mm presentations of The Odyssey.
