The Aspirers Athletics Club made an impressive start at the 35th Trupial Classic in Curaçao today, with Dominican athletes capturing all three podium positions in the men’s open triple jump.
Khaarim John-Baptiste claimed the gold medal with a new personal best leap of 14.20 metres, while Khumaar John-Baptiste secured the silver medal with 14.05 metres. Jaden Joseph completed the Dominican sweep of the podium, taking bronze with a jump of 13.42 metres.
The results highlighted a strong opening for the Portsmouth-based club, which is representing Dominica with a 28-member delegation at the regional meet.
Competition continues with a full schedule of track and field events involving Dominican athletes. Arl Larocque is set to compete in the Under-17 boys’ shot put, while Esther Frank will contest the Under-11 girls’ long jump and later the 400 metres.
Sprint events will feature Arneah Edwards and Chasity Daniel in the Under-15 girls’ 80-metre final, followed by the Under-17 100-metre semifinals with Kedella Victor, Jerellia Marcel and Delanie George. Kamardi Victor will compete in the men’s open 100-metre semifinals.
Middle-distance and longer sprint events will also see Hannah Marcellin, Omari Caesar, Reynold Frank, Zidan Cornelius, Madison Ernest, Luan Gabriel, Alejandro Baron, Daunte Cornelius and Chris Toussaint representing Dominica as the competition continues in Curaçao.
