To the American media CNN, the head of the Department for Business, Raw Materials, Energy, the Justice Area and Equality Jørgen Hammeken-Holm says that “we are very far from a massive investigation” of oil in Greenland.
“There are several smaller ones investigative activities on the way, but it may take years before they become operational”. This is how Jørgen Hammeken-Holm, head of department in the Department for Business, Raw Materials, Energy, the Justice Area and Equality, says American media CNN.
The message comes after the President of the United States, Donald Trump, wrote on Truth Social on the night of Wednesday, American time, that “preparations are being made for an extensive exploration of oil, gas and minerals in our new and beautiful Greenland”.
We have to expect this kind of outbreak
Former naalakkersuisoq for raw materials, Naaja Nathanielsen, who is today a member of the Norwegian Parliament for Inuit Ataqatigiit, comments in a post on Facebook on the president’s latest post.
“My first thought is that American investments in the underground of Kalaallit Nunaat are – and have been – welcome, taking into account our laws and regulations. So of course I expect that to be respected by everyone. The second thought is that Trump’s post is perhaps particularly aimed at a home audience in the run-up to a mid-term election, where the price of fuel is high in the US, among other things because of the US’s war against Iran. As I said before, we must expect this kind of outbreak on social media. Let’s not fall for the algorithms. I continue unwaveringly my focus on getting the defense agreement, which has just been signed, finalized in the Folketing in a sober manner.”
Sermitsiaq has asked the department if they are aware of concrete upcoming investigations for oil, gas and minerals in Greenland, but we have not yet received an answer to that.
