CORONIE — A low-rise house, partly made of wood and partly of concrete, on Commissarisstraat in the Friendship resort completely burned down in the early morning on Saturday in the Coronie district. When the local police went out after the report, the house was found ablaze. The fire brigade was also on site, but could not save the building. There were no personal accidents.
Resident GB, 30 years old, told the police that he had briefly left the house to get drinking water from a local resident further down the street. When he returned, he found his house ablaze. The person who called the police said he heard a bang, after which he noticed that his neighbor’s house was on fire. He immediately called the police.
The Suriname Police Department writes on its website that it is not yet known whether the house, which was connected to the electricity grid, was insured against fire. Forensic Investigation was called in to conduct a technical investigation into the exact cause of the house fire.
