The The Department of Civil Protection has activated a pre-alert for high temperatures throughout the country and another for fire danger given the forecast of a new episode of intense heat in the coming days. According to the Fire danger bulletin from the fire departmentthe center and the south of the principality they are in a situation of very high danger (level 2), while in the north the risk is high (level 1). This situation is expected to remain, at least, until Wednesday.
As for temperatures, Civil Protection warns that the values recorded on Friday and Saturday have exceeded initial forecasts and that the heat will intensify during the coming week. Between Tuesday and Friday, the peak of the fourth heat wave of the summer could be recorded, with maximums of between 32 and 35 degrees in the valley bottoms of the center and south of the country. In the north, where the yellow warning remains, the thermometers could also exceed 30 degrees at 1,500 meters of altitude.
The absence of precipitation will also contribute to high overnight temperatures, with limited night cooling, which may exacerbate the effects of the heat. Faced with this scenario, Civil Protection has activated several preventive measures to reduce the risk of forest fire. These include the suspension of lighting fires, throwing pyrotechnic material and restrictions on the use of fire in barbecue areas. The organization also asks to take extreme precautions in the natural environment, to avoid throwing lit matches or matches and to always deposit waste in the appropriate containers.
Regarding the high temperatures, it is recommended to limit physical activities and going out during the hours of maximum heat, hydrate frequently, wear light clothing and protect your head. Similarly, it is recalled the importance of paying special attention to the most vulnerable groups, such as the elderly, children and people with illnesses, as well as to pets, and to keep homes protected from the sun by lowering blinds and closing windows during the central hours of the day.
