Canadians don’t have to wait much longer for the start of the Commonwealth Games.
CBC Sports will begin its coverage on Thursday, with the opening ceremony live from Glasgow.
Coverage begins at 2:30 p.m. ET on CBC and CBC Gem, with CBC Sports’ Andi Petrillo hosting alongside Paralympic cycling medallist Nathan Clement.
From there, CBC Sports will bring Canadians more than 1,200 hours of coverage throughout the 10-day event from July 23 to Aug. 2, including daily broadcasts featuring some of the country’s biggest names in sports.
Petrillo will be joined in studio by a trio of decorated Canadian athletes: Olympic swimming medallist Brittany MacLean Campbell, two-time Olympian and world champion hurdler Perdita Felicien, and two-time Olympic champion and three-time world champion sprinter Donovan Bailey.
The daily coverage will feature live action from some of the Games’ biggest events, including swimming and athletics finals, while also keeping fans updated on sports such as artistic gymnastics, bowls, judo, track cycling and weightlifting.
A veteran broadcast team will handle play-by-play duties. Rob Snoek and Byron MacDonald will call the swimming events, while Mark Lee and Michael Smith will provide coverage of athletics.
