More about fuel and cars – in the section Gazas.lt
Traveling by electric car remains cheaper than gasoline and diesel-powered cars, whose costs for the fuel needed for the trip increased in the first quarter of this year due to the rise in the prices of oil and its products.
It has become more expensive to travel 100 km with a diesel car than with other fuel-powered transport. Car registration data shows growing demand for pure electric cars and declining sales of diesel cars. In order to save, it is most beneficial to travel by environmentally friendly transport – this is shown by the data of the Lithuanian Energy Agency.
Expenses for a 100 km trip, electricity has become cheaper
Fuel costs for a 100 km trip in 2026. in the first quarter, driving a passenger light electric car averaged 4.70 euros. To travel the same distance in an electric cargo car, it was necessary to spend an average of 7.68 euros. In the fourth quarter of 2025, the costs for such a trip amounted to 5.29 euros and 7.90 euros, respectively, while a year ago, in the first quarter of last year, such a trip cost similar to what it is now – 4.80 euros and 7.61 euros, respectively.
Comparing the first quarter of this year with the previous quarter, the average cost of charging a 50 kWh battery of an electric vehicle decreased by 2.3 percent, and compared to the same period a year ago, it increased by 7.9 percent.
The average price of electricity used to charge an electric car battery in the first quarter of this year, compared to last year’s fourth quarter, decreased from 0.308 EUR/kWh to 0.301 EUR/kWh.
Charging an electric car at home was 42.5 percent. cheaper than at public charging points, although the price of electricity when charging an electric car at home increased by 6.4 percent during the quarter, and when charging at public charging points, the price of electricity decreased by 7.6 percent.
How much did diesel, gas and gasoline become more expensive?
The price of diesel fuel increased by 13.9 percent in the first quarter of this year, so the cost of a 100 km trip in a diesel passenger car reached 9.09 euros. In the fourth quarter of last year, the cost of such a trip for diesel was 8.30 euros, in the same first quarter a year ago, it was 8.76 euros. To travel the same distance in a diesel passenger car, diesel costs reached 12.47 euros, compared to 10.56 euros in the fourth quarter of last year, and in 2025 in the first quarter – 11.14 euros.
Gasoline prices rose by 7.2 percent in the first quarter of this year, but the average cost of a 100 km trip in a gasoline-powered passenger car fell to €8.63, down from €9.15 in the previous quarter and €9.01 a year ago. This was due to a higher share of new gasoline cars registered, with lower fuel consumption. To travel the same distance in a cargo car, the cost of gasoline in the first quarter of this year was 13.34 euros, compared to 11.26 euros in the last quarter last year, and in a year, in 2025 in the first quarter, – 11.82 euros.
The average price of natural gas (CNG – compressed natural gas – aut.) during the first quarter of this year, compared to 2025. in the fourth quarter, it decreased by 2.6 percent, so a 100 km trip in a passenger car powered only by gas cost 7.45 euros, and compared to the previous quarter, it increased by 4.3 percent, per year compared to 2025. in the first quarter, fell by 1.6 percent.
When traveling by gas-powered light cargo car, travel costs amounted to 12.75 euros, compared to 15.4 percent in the previous quarter. cheaper, and a year ago – 8.8 percent. cheaper. The decrease in the price of the trip was due to the fact that the number of gas-powered vehicles in the fleet increased, with higher fuel consumption.
Car registrations are decreasing
During 2026 in the first quarter, 44,516 passenger cars were newly registered, which is 8.7 percent. less than in 2025 in the fourth quarter and 2.4 percent. less than a year ago in the first quarter. New cars accounted for 21.5 percent.
Comparing the first quarter of this year and the last quarter of last year, the registration of gasoline and diesel-powered cars decreased by 8.7 percent, respectively. and 10 percent, while the registration of pure electric cars decreased by 19.9 percent.
