Monday morning I was moved by the images about the floods of streets and housing in my native El Estero, Neiba, due to the flooding of the El Manguito river, a product of the rains and the lack of attention to the clamor of the community members, who for more than a year have been asking for the construction of a wall on the right side of the tributary.
And even with the water inside my town, a tornado in Gascue, where I live, hit us in the afternoon. A strong breeze combined with rain downed trees on Hermanos Deligne Avenue, damaging several vehicles, two belonging to my family.
I was in the apartment with my son, and we couldn’t find an explanation for what happened. We thought the blinds were going to explode. It caused us a great scare. A bush fell in the middle of the parking lot, broke two thrushes in the neighbors’ apartments and fell on our car. Another tree fell on my son’s SUV. We thank God that neither in El Estero nor in Gascue was there any human damage.
