The presidents of Lithuania and Latvia held a press conference on Wednesday about intelligence on Russian attack plans.
Russia plans attack against critical infrastructure in the Baltic countries or Poland.
This is what the presidents of Lithuania and Latvia say on Wednesday, referring to intelligence reports.
The President of Lithuania, Gitanas Nauseda, and his Latvian counterpart, Redgars Rinkevics, held a press conference in the Lithuanian capital, Vilnius, on Wednesday.
– It concerns energy and transport infrastructure – facilities where damage can disrupt the operation of the entire energy system, says Nauseda at the press conference.
– Planning takes place at the highest level in Moscow.
Rinkevics said at the press conference that the Baltic countries of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania must be prepared for provocations from Russia.
The three countries, as well as Poland, are part of both the EU and NATO.
The Latvian president says that Russia, which has been waging war in Ukraine since 2022, will “test” the Nato alliance’s defense pact.
– Even without a total Ukrainian victory, Russia can indirectly test Article 5 and the response mechanisms in the alliance and the EU, he says.
Article 5 is the so-called musketeer in NATO, which means that an attack on one country is considered an attack on all countries.
