PETALING JAYA: Independent men’s singles shuttler Cheam June Wei may not have enjoyed much success on the BWF World Tour, but he continues to shine at the Lin Dan Cup after claiming his fifth title in Jincheng, China on Saturday (Aug 29).
June Wei defeated home player Ren Chengming 15-11, 15-6 in the final to secure another title at the invitational event.
The victory also mirrored his first Lin Dan Cup title in Shenzhen in 2024, when he also beat Chengming in the final.
June Wei also became only the second player after China’s Zhao Junpeng to win the Lin Dan Cup five times.
The Penang born shuttler has now earned a total of 1.152 million yuan (about RM689,000) from winning his five titles at the tournament.
His latest win came just over a month after he captured the Chenzhou edition in July.
June Wei’s previous Lin Dan Cup titles came in Shenzhen and Macau in 2024, Jincheng last year and Chenzhou this year.

June Wei will now head to Pontianak for the Indonesian Masters, which begins on Tuesday (Sept 1).
He is expected to face a tough opening round test against rising American shuttler Garret Tan, who stunned India’s Lakshya Sen at the recent World Championships in New Delhi.
