The Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs, the National Community Abroad, and African Affairs, Ahmed Attaf, met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs and African Affairs of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic, Mohamed Yeslam Besit, on the sidelines of the high-level week of the eighty-first session of the United Nations General Assembly.
According to what the Foreign Ministry reported in a statement on Sunday, September 27, the meeting allowed for a review of the latest developments related to the Western Sahara issue, especially developments in the international process aimed at reaching a just and lasting political solution that guarantees the Sahrawi people the exercise of their inalienable right to self-determination, in accordance with the relevant United Nations regulations.
Attaf reiterated Algeria’s firm and principled position in support of the just Sahrawi cause and the right of the Sahrawi people to self-determination.
He also affirmed Algeria’s continued support for international efforts to ensure that the Sahrawi people are empowered to exercise this right, as it is the core of the Sahrawi issue and the basis of any just and lasting political settlement, in accordance with the principles of the United Nations Charter, international law and international legitimacy resolutions.
