The Armenian Congress of America opposes a US Congress-sponsored measure that undermines US policy

The Armenian Congress of America is deeply concerned about reports of a June 24 event at the US Congress organized by the Baku Initiative Group (which, according to their website, is based in Azerbaijan).

This measure cannot be considered in isolation. It comes amid the ethnic cleansing of more than 120,000 indigenous Armenians who were forcibly displaced from Nagorno Karabakh (Artsakh), as well as the ongoing detention of Armenian hostages held in Baku, and ongoing attempts to erase, redact, or distort historical facts, leading to the destruction of one of the world’s oldest Christian Armenian communities.

The Assembly is concerned that such initiatives may legitimize narratives that deny or minimize the suffering of displaced Armenians and divert attention from pressing unresolved humanitarian and human rights issues. At a time when Armenian hostages continue to be held and displaced Armenians still unable to return safely to their homes, Congress’ attention must be focused on ensuring accountability and establishing a just and lasting peace.

The Armenian Congress of America calls on the community to speak out at the Capitol about the Aliyev regime’s ongoing genocide denial and its continued attempts to justify it.
