Flights to and from Sisimiut have been suspended for three days due to security reasons. Air Greenland states that around 300 passengers have been affected by delays, but that flights have now resumed after investigations.
ATTENTION: Earlier it appeared in the article that Air Greenland confirms that Sisimiut airport has reopened. This is not a correct wording. The correct wording is that Air Greenland confirms that flights to and from Sisimiut have resumed.
Flight to and from Sisimiut is has been set between Monday and Wednesday. But now the timetable to and from Sisimiut has resumed.
This is confirmed by Air Greenland’s communications department.
According to Air Greenland, around 300 passengers to and from Sisimiut are affected by the closure, and thus have delays in their journey.
Flights to and from Sisimiut airport have been suspended since Monday due to security reasons.
– The background is that two different crews in connection with landings in Sisimiut have experienced that the aircraft’s braking effect was significantly different from the stated braking values for the runway, Air Greenland announced earlier this week.
– Passenger safety during flight and landing has been the most important thing for Air Greenland. That is why we have gone through studies of the runway before we could reopen the airport for operations. Now that we have ensured that the runway is operable, we will reopen Sisimiut, says Director of Sustainability and Communication at Air Greenland, Inga Dora Markussen.
