US President Donald Trump expressed his belief, on Friday, that negotiations with Iran are proceeding successfully, reiterating that Tehran will never possess nuclear weapons.
“We are making great progress with Iran,” Trump told reporters on Air Force One, adding that Tehran “will not possess nuclear weapons. It is not in a position to possess them.”
Trump added, “The world needs what we are doing… Large quantities of oil came out of the Strait of Hormuz with America’s help and will come to us and to the world.”
He continued, “Oil prices will fall, perhaps to lower prices than they were… We have all the types of energy we need and we will extract more oil, and American oil is what prevented the price of a barrel from reaching $300.”
This comes as Iran’s ambassador to Russia, Kazem Jalali, confirmed earlier Friday that negotiations between Tehran and the United States are continuing.
Jalali told TASS on the sidelines of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum that the course of negotiations between the American and Iranian parties is still continuing.
In response to a question about the stage the talks have reached, he replied: “Honestly, I do not yet have any accurate information, and there is still no news about the stage the negotiations have reached.”
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi recently announced that there is currently no official path for negotiations between Tehran and Washington, but at the same time he confirmed that messages are still being exchanged. He also explained that no consensus has been reached yet.
