Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries, Blue and Green Economy Roland Royer has extended congratulations to Capuchin farmer Mrs. Gilles Carbon-Jno Baptist following her selection among the FAO’s 100 Women Heroes in Agri-Food Systems and Rural Development.
Royer described the recognition as a proud moment for Dominica, highlighting Carbon-Jno Baptist’s more than 40 years of dedication to farming and her longstanding commitment to the land.
Royer, who also serves as the parliamentary representative for the Cottage constituency, said the achievement carries particular significance because Carbon-Jno Baptist is one of his constituents.
He noted that her accomplishment reflects the wider contribution of farmers to national development, emphasizing that agriculture goes beyond food production by strengthening communities, sharing knowledge, creating opportunities and supporting Dominica’s resilience.
The Agriculture Minister also used the occasion to recognise the vital role of women in the country’s agricultural sector. He said Carbon-Jno
Baptist’s international honour represents the efforts of countless Dominican farmers who work daily to produce food and support their communities.
Royer congratulated her on behalf of the Government and the people of the Cottage constituency, expressing hope that her story will motivate more young Dominicans, particularly women, to view agriculture as a sector offering opportunity, dignity and pride.
