The Algerian under-20 team was defeated by its Moroccan counterpart, by three goals to one, in the third round of the North African Union qualifying tournament for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations finals.
After this defeat, the Algerian team lost its lead in the standings and fell to third place.
The Algerian team will rest in the next round, with the Egyptian team facing the tournament organizer, in the fifth and final round on October 6 at the Suez Canal Authority Stadium, starting at two and a half in the afternoon.
The Egyptian team currently leads the standings with 9 points after defeating Tunisia by two goals to one.
The Moroccan team occupies second place with 4 points, while the Algerian team is in third place with the same score, followed by the Tunisia team in fourth place with two points, and the Libyan team occupies last place with no points.
Returning to the proceedings of the match between the Algerian U-20 team and its Moroccan counterpart, the “Greens” started the match well, as they controlled the course of play and were the most dangerous party, especially through striker Mohamed Valmy, who missed more than one opportunity to open the scoring, so the first half ended in a scoreless draw.
The performance of the “Greens” declined in the second half, and the team received three consecutive goals within 10 minutes, which made it difficult for the Al-Arfi Cubs to recover the result, despite substitute Mohamed Amjad New scoring the goal in the 84th minute to reduce the difference.
