The elected president, Abelardo de la Espriellaannounced last night the elimination of several ministries and agencies of the Presidency of the Republic to avoid “duplicity of functions and waste.” With this reform, which will be launched on August 7, it seeks savings of $10,000 million annually, money that will be used to finance social projects.
He made the announcement in the live broadcast that he has been doing every Sunday to inform Colombians about his work and actions of the week, before the presidential inauguration. In this broadcast he appointed María Nohemí Arboleda Minister of Mines and Energy, mentioned the visit that the World Bank will make to Colombia to put together a “cooperation and investment package” and reiterated that she wants to assume power from a military garrison.
“I will transform the structure of the Presidency into an executive coordination centerwith a staff without ties and without positions to pay political favors or bureaucratic fees. Now it will be an austere, efficient and oriented structure to the results. That is why I ordered the elimination of ministries, agencies and structures that duplicate functions, transferring their powers to ministries and entities with a legal mandate, thereby strengthening accountability and reducing bureaucracy,” said De la Espriella.

The elected president indicated that his government will then eliminate the Ministry for National Reconciliation and the Presidential Counsel for Human Rights and International Humanitarian Law, whose functions will be assumed by the ministries of the Interior, Defense and Foreign Affairs. The councils for Women and the Regions will be maintained, which will be restructured to give them a more technical focus.
“This reform It will eliminate about 229 entry charges, and with that I am generating approximate savings of 10,000 million pesos annually. and I am going to allocate those resources to programs that directly benefit Colombians,” said the elected president.

Likewise, he stated that several agencies will soon be dispensed with, but did not specify which ones. Some of those that could disappear are the Presidential Agency for International Cooperation (APC-Colombia), the Agency for Reincorporation and Normalization (ARN), the National Unit for Disaster Risk Management (UNGRD) and the Virgilio Barco Agency (National Real Estate Agency). Of which there is certainty and that “leaves the ring” is the Peace Agreement Implementation Unitwhich was created in 2022 by Decree 2647 and is currently directed by Gloria Cuartas.
Furthermore, De la Espriella mentioned that the figure of high commissioner for Peace, who occupies Otty Patinowill be renamed security commissioner and will have a refocusing.
“The Commissioner for Peace is finished because there will be no more false peace processes in my government. And starting on August 7, the objective will be the security of the people and the total dismantling of the perverse system of impunity that reigns at this moment and that will end as soon as I take office,” he stated.
