Havana/The Cuban weightlifters Yorelvis Machado Olivera (95 kilograms) and Yeniuska Mirabal Feria (77 kg) have taken advantage of their stay in Tepic, Mexico, to escape. The athletes separated from the delegation prior to their participation last Wednesday, spread the portal Cubalite. This Thursday, the national team completed its participation in the second weightlifting qualifier heading to the Lima 2027 Pan American Games.
Machado and Mirabal evaded the security filters implemented by commissioner Camilo Reynaldo Ramírez, coach Yoani Giniebra Junco, men’s team instructor Gabriel Esquivel Pérez, physiotherapist Hector Rodríguez Martínez and technical official Liliam López Rubio.
National commissioner Camilo Reynaldo Ramírez omitted to talk about the abandonments. For the federation “it was a successful event” due to the two gold medals and one bronze medal won by weightlifter Marifelix Sarría. In addition to the two silver medals and one bronze medal from Ludia Montero and the three bronze medals from Edisnel Corrales.
“The objectives were met, which was to carry out the biathlons that would allow them to be among the first eight places, to search for positions within the classification process,” he assured the official media Hit.
Machado and Mirabal along with Ludia Montero Ramos, Marifelix Sarria Ruiz, Otto Felix Oñate Araujo and Edisnel Corrales Rondón boarded a flight to Mexico on October 1.

Machado was one of the strong cards in the event organized by Panam Sports and the Pan American Weightlifting Federation (Pawf), together with the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) and with the support of the Mexican Olympic Committee. In the last Central American and Caribbean Games, in Santo Domingo, Machado won two bronze medals, for which he was feted upon arriving on the Island. In that same competition, Mirabal had some problems, but managed to place fourth.
In Santo Domingo, leaks were recorded of the Cuban fencers Adam Núñez and Hershey Daniela de la Cruz, as well as the center fielder of the softball team Yasmani Álvarez.
The escapes of Núñez, De la Cruz and Álvarez are added to those of the goalkeeper of the men’s field hockey team, Moisés David Torres Puigwho disassociated himself from Cuban sports a few hours before the official opening of the tournament and without having played a match. The athlete from Las Tunas pretended to have been hit by a ball during training and asked for ice to treat the alleged injury. After announcing that he was going to throw away the ice, he took the opportunity, in complicity with another person, to escape in a vehicle requested through the Uber application.
Days later, the shirt Leah Daniela Almeidawho won gold with Ana Jiménez, also escaped. Little was reported about the competitor born in Máximo Gómez, in the Matanzas municipality of Perico, and journalist Francys Romero indicated that there were no “more details about the circumstances or destiny” of the competitor.
