The current agreement on helicopter transport in South Greenland ends when the new airport opens.
Air Greenland and Naalakkersuisut
is in the process of processing a temporary 1-year service contract. This contract will apply from the opening of the new airport in Qaqortoq and for 1 year.
Air Greenland has already sent an offer to the Department for Housing, Infrastructure and Outlying Districts, and the details are being negotiated in place, the department states in a press release.
During 2026, a public tender will be held, where the helicopter traffic will be sent in competition. The agreements, which will come from the public tender, are expected to come into force from the end of the temporary service contract and apply for 3 years from 2027 to 2030.
Will hold seminar in Qaqortoq
Naalakkersuisut will hold a local infrastructure seminar in Qaqortoq during the year. This means that local citizens, businesses and organizations are welcome to stop by and have an influence on, among other things:
– What the traffic structure in South Greenland should look like after Qaqortoq’s airport opens.
– How best to organize helicopter and ship traffic.
This is because the locals get the opportunity to influence the officials’ decision-making basis for air traffic in South Greenland.
Naalakkersuisoq: Values inclusion highly
– It is important for me to emphasize that in this process I place great emphasis on the inclusion of local inputs and interests.
– That is why an infrastructure seminar is being organized in Qaqortoq, which will give local stakeholders and businesses a platform to share opinions and wishes for the future traffic structure, says Naalakkersuisoq for Social Affairs, Labor Market, Housing, Infrastructure and Outlying Districts, Aqqaluaq B. Egede (IA),
The service contract for sailing in South Greenland is handled by Disko Line A/S and continues to apply until 2030.
