The flood forecasting and warning center of the Water Development Board has predicted that Sylhet and seven districts of the northern region may experience short-term floods due to the rise in the water level of some rivers.
According to the Centre’s regular bulletin on Saturday, the water of Kushiara river is flowing 1 cm above the flood limit in Fenchuganj, Sylhet.
As a result, the Flood Forecasting and Warning Center of the Water Development Board has predicted that the low-lying areas adjacent to the river in Sylhet and Sunamganj districts may experience short-term flooding in the next 72 hours.
Besides, Teesta river is flowing at Dalia point of Nilphamari, Surma river at Markuli point of Sunamganj, Kushiara river at Moulvibazar point of Sherpur-Sylhet section and Someshwari river at Kalmakanda point of Netrokona are flowing under warning limits.
According to the bulletin, in the last 24 hours, the water level of the Teesta and Dharla rivers in the northern Rangpur division has remained stable, while the water level of the Dudhkumar river has decreased; Which may increase in the next three days.
As a result, the water of these rivers may flow over the danger line in the next 72 hours and short-term flooding may occur in the low-lying areas along the rivers of Nilphamari, Lalmonirhat, Kurigram, Rangpur and Gaibandha districts.
The Flood Forecasting Center says heavy to moderate rainfall has been observed over Sylhet division inland and Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh in upstream India during the last 24 hours.
Quoting meteorological agencies, the Flood Forecasting Center says that Rangpur, Sylhet and Mymensingh divisions and adjacent upstream West Bengal, Assam and Meghalaya provinces of India are expected to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall for the next five days.
According to the Flood Forecasting Center, the Brahmaputra-Yamuna river level has risen in the last 24 hours, which may continue for the next five days.
From June 30 to July 2, Brahmaputra river and Yamuna river may flow under warning limits in Kurigram, Gaibandha, Jamalpur, Bogra, Sirajganj and Tangail districts and low-lying areas adjacent to the river may be inundated at some places.
According to the Flood Forecasting Center, in the last 24 hours, the Kushiara river in the north-eastern region has risen flat, while the Surma river has fallen flat; Which may increase in the next three days.
Besides, in the last 24 hours, the water level of Khoai and Someshwari rivers in northeastern Sylhet and Mymensingh divisions has increased, while the water level of Manu and Dhalai rivers has decreased. And the waters of Sarigoine and Magic River are flat and stable; Which may increase in the next three days.
The Flood Forecasting Center has warned that the Someshwari river may flow in the warning limit in Netrakona district and the low-lying areas adjacent to the river may be temporarily inundated at some places.
