The National Union of Press Workers (SNTP) and the National College of Journalists (CNP) received the award this Tuesday Prego Victory for Freedom of Expressiongranted in Spain.
The Madrid Press Association (APM) awarded the award in recognition of the defense of the right to inform that both organizations carry out in Venezuela, according to the promoters of the award.
The jury highlighted the sustained work of the SNTP and the CNP in the face of the “restrictions, harassment and judicialization that Venezuelan journalists face.” In the opinion of the APM, the Sntp and the CNP constantly accompany professionals who practice their trade in adverse conditions.
The SNTP systematically documents attacks, arbitrary detentions, judicial processes and limitations on journalistic practice. In recent weeks, the organization denounced new attacks against reporters in coverage and the persistence of open cases against journalists, even after amnesty announcements.

“The recognition not only honors our organizations, but also each journalist who reports in conditions of risk. It also constitutes a call to stop the attacks and guarantee real conditions for the exercise of journalism,” declared Marco Ruiz, general secretary of the SNTP.
The two institutions insisted on the need for the definitive closure of judicial proceedings against journalists, the end of harassment and the full restitution of guarantees for freedom of expression.
The award ceremony will take place within the framework of World Press Freedom Day, next May 3. The award is named after the Spanish journalist Victoria Prego (1948-2024), who presided over the APM and stood out for her coverage of the democratic transition in Spain, reflected in works such as Dictionary of the Transition.
In its first edition, in 2025, the award was awarded to Reporters Without Borders Spain. This international distinction highlights the situation of journalism in Venezuela and the resistance of those who defend the right to information.
