He Pope Leo XIV affirmed this Tuesday that God “is not with the wicked, with the arrogant, with the arrogant; the heart of God is with the small and the humble”, a day after the president of the United States, donald trumpaccused the pontiff of being “weak” in foreign policy.
The pope spoke like this on his second day of visiting Algeriaduring a stop at a small center for the elderly in Annaba, a town in the northwest of the country where he was bishop Saint Augustinewhich inspired the order to which he belongs.
“I am happy because God lives here, since where there is love and service, there is God,” said the pope, speaking in English before the nuns and about thirty elderly people who serve in this center, managed by the Little Sisters of the Poor and where he went after visiting the archaeological area of ancient Hippo.

And he added: “I think that the Lord, from heaven, seeing a house like this, where people seek to live together in fraternity, can think: well there is hope! Yes, because the heart of God is torn by the warsviolence, injustices and lies.”
“But our Father’s heart is not with the wicked, with the arrogant, with the proud; God’s heart is with the small and the humble, and with them he carries forward his Kingdom of love and peace, every day.”
The Pope will conclude this visit of a few hours to the city linked to the figure of Saint Augustine with a mass in the basilica that bears the name of the Saint of Hippo.

The visit to Algeria, first stage of the Pope’s trip to Africabegan yesterday Monday marked by the words of Trump, who harshly criticized the pontiff, telling him that he was “weak” and “terrible in foreign policy“.
On the plane that took him to Algiers, the American pope responded by assuring that he was not “afraid” of the trump administration and that he would continue to strongly raise his voice against the war.
