The National Directorate of Customs unwary commodity of smuggling valued at more than $1.6 million in two operations carried out in supermarkets in the city of Meloin the department of Long Hill.
The procedures were carried out in recent days after complaints about the possible marketing of products in customs violation. Within this framework, officials from the Southern Regional Mobile Customs and the Customs Response and Intelligence Group inspected two commercial premises and their respective warehouses.
During the proceedings, they seized alcoholic beverages, cigarettes, appliances, food and more than 600 liters of milk of Brazilian originin addition to a significant amount of meat products, including chicken, pork and bovine.

The total value of the retained merchandise was estimated at $1,602,761as provided by the competent Justice.
Destination of the merchandise
Regarding the seized products, the authorities decided on different destinations. The meat products were made available to the Ministry of Livestock, Agriculture and Fisheries (MGAP) for subsequent destruction.
There was also provision for destruction of alcoholic beverages and cigaretteswhile non-perishable foods were donated to different institutions in Cerro Largo.
For its part, part of the seized merchandise was transferred to storage, awaiting an eventual judicial auction.
