The president of the United States, Donald Trump, starred in an unusual scene at the White House this Monday when he personally received a food order from the McDonald’s chain, in a gesture that he took advantage of to reinforce his proposal to eliminate taxes on tips.
The delivery was carried out by Sharon Simmons, a worker at the DoorDash delivery platform, who arrived at the Oval Office with the order. Dressed in a t-shirt that identified her as ‘Doordash’s grandmother’, the delivery girl entered with two bags of fast food that she delivered directly to the president.
During the meeting, trump He joked about the situation. “This doesn’t seem planned,” he commented on the improvised scene.
The moment also served to showcase his stance on tips. When asked by journalists about whether good bonuses were left in the White House, the president responded with a specific gesture: he took out a $100 bill and handed it to the delivery girl. To this, Simmons responded affirmatively: “Yes.”
The worker took advantage of the occasion to express her support for the president’s proposal. “I want to thank you for the tip tax exemption. It has helped my family tremendously and I certainly appreciate it very much,” he stated.
With the delivery girl still at his side, Trump also offered statements to the press about other current issues, including the state of negotiations with Iran, that ended on Sunday without a formal agreement after more than 20 hours of talks.
The tax elimination proposal seeks to benefit workers
The elimination of taxes on tips has been one of the axes of his economic discourse since 2024, when he presented the initiative as a measure aimed at benefiting workers in the service sector. In 2025, the proposal was partially materialized with the inclusion of a tax deduction in a legislative package approved by Congress.
However, specialists have warned that the measure does not imply a total or permanent elimination of the tax burden, but rather a limited relief that varies depending on the income level of the beneficiaries.
In the midst of his political agenda, the president plans to travel this Thursday to Las Vegas, where he will address this policy again as part of his strategy to consolidate support among workers who depend on tips.
